Baylor: Baylor is 16-3 versus Texas opponents over the last 4+ seasons. That record includes 9 straight victories the Bears have posted over there fellow Texans. Houston: If you had to make a list of the most successful offensive teams in the country since 2006, you'd likely pick Oregon and Baylor while possibly considering teams like Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Florida or others. Amazingly, in that time period, the Houston Cougars are second nationally in total offensive yards! (Behind only the aforementioned Ducks) Rice: For the first time this weekend, Rice will be inverting their helmet colors. The helmets will be white while the R's will be blue. Also, the Owls will be wearing a sticker on the back of their helmets commemorating Rice legend James "Froggy" Williams. Williams was an All-American end at Rice in 1949 who passed away this summer. Froggy made the only field goal of his college career (as time ran out) to beat Texas 17-15 in Austin in 1949. SMU: UNT and SMU will be meeting this weekend for the 35th time this weekend. Over the entire history of this series the North Texas Mean Green have only beaten SMU at home once. That victory occurred in 1933. TAMU: Last weekend, Texas A&M defensive end Daeshon Hall racked up four sacks against Arizona State. That total was good enough to tie Hall for second on TAMU's all-time single game QB sack list. Even more impressive? Hall is the first person to make that list in 28 years after three separate players made it in the 1980s.
Texas Tech: The Red Raiders will face UTEP this weekend. Since the formation of the Big 12 the Miners are 0-14 against Big 12 opponents. That total includes a 0-4 record against the Red Raiders. UNT: Since 2011 when he took the head job at UNT, Coach Dan McCarney has had four former walk ons be named as All-Conference players. UT: Since 1994 the University of Texas is 20-1 home openers. After losing an away game last week to Notre Dame, the Longhorns will look to make that record 21-1. UTEP: As previously mentioned, the Miners will be facing Texas Tech this weekend. While Tech is the larger school in the more prestigious conference they will have one distinct disadvantage on the field Saturday - while the Red Raider starting defensive line averages 280 pounds the starting UTEP offensive line weighs in at 313. The second string UTEP line? Even bigger at 329. UTSA: The Roadrunners will look to rebound from a hard fought week 1 loss against a strong Kansas State team. Interestingly enough, one of UTSA's top administrators might have a little love for both sides. UTSA Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics Lynn Hickey is a member of the Kansas State Athletics Hall of Fame. Inducted in 2004, Hickey compiled a 125-39 (.762) overall record from 1979-84 as the head coach of the women’s basketball program. She owns the school’s best winning percentage while guiding each of her five teams into the postseason (reaching the Elite Eight of the 1982 NCAA Tournament). Hickey coached the Wildcats to a pair of Big Eight Conference titles (1983, ’84) and the league’s tournament championship in 1984. Three of her teams finished with top-20 rankings, including a No. 7 finish by the 1984 squad.
