Biggio Say​s Goodbye

It seemed all he had to do to punch his ticket to Cooperstown was retire, but in his own eyes, Craig Biggio felt he needed to do a little more.
Biggio, a Class of 2004 Inductee into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame, announced that at the end of this season he would retire from the game of baseball. Biggio has spent all 20 years of his Major League career with the Astros, making him the longest tenured player in franchise history - and his goodbye that much harder for Astros fans.
Biggio has given them plenty to cheer about over the years, especially this past one. So far in his milestone filled season, he has become the 27th member of the prestigious 3,000 hit club, the only player in Major League history with 600 doubles, 250 homers, 3,000 hits and 400 steals, and is 3 plunks away from breaking Hughie Jennings record of being hit by a pitch 287 times. To top it all off, on the day he announced his retirement he belted the fourth Grand Slam of his career.
Even though he has played his entire career in Houston, Biggio’s services have not been limited to just one position. He played catcher his first four seasons, and earned his first All-Star selection his fourth year. The following year the Astros moved him to second base, where he again made the All-Star team. After a short stint in the outfield, Biggio has returned to second base and it seems that is the position where he will end his storied career.
Biggio and his long time friend and teammate Jeff Bagwell were inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in the same year. Some of Biggio’s items you can find on display include

Biggio currently resides in Houston with his wife, Patty, and their three children. After thanking his family in his new conference he added “I can’t justify being out of their lives any more. I want to be home.” It seems like Biggio, in his own eyes, feels it is time to do a little more.
