SKU:
San Antonio native Arthur "Pinky" Whitney was a third baseman in the major leagues from 1928-1939 with the Philadelphia Phillies and the Boston Braves. Whitney had a lifetime .295 batting average and a .964 career fielding percentage. Whitney was signed to a baseball contract in 1924 by the Cleveland Indians for $2,500. A clerical mistake by the Indians left Whitney unprotected and he was acquired by the Philadelphia Phillies. In 1937 he was selected to play in the All-Star Game and drove in two runs in a 4-3 National League victory. Whitney was inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in 1983.(Baseball)
