Eddie Reese
Eddie Reese began his illustrious swimming career as a two-time state champion in the 200m individual medley at Mainland High School in Florida. In 1963 at the University of Florida he became the first swimmer in school history to win five SEC titles. After coaching at Florida and Auburn he accepted the job at the University of Texas in 1979. Under his guidance the Longhorns have won 14 NCAA National Championships. Texas’s 14 titles are the most in NCAA history ahead of Michigan’s 12 and Ohio State’s 11. His teams have won an amazing 40 consecutive conference titles including 17 SWC (1980-1996) and every Big 12 title (23) since the league was formed in 1996. He has coached 73 NCAA individual champions, 50 NCAA champion relays, and 29 Olympians who have collected 39 gold medals, 16 silver medals and eight bronze medals. In 1992 he coached the United States men's swimming team at the Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. Reeses is a three-time CSCAA National Coach of the Year (2015, '16, '17), 8-time NCAA Coach of the Year (1981, '88, '89, '90, '92, '96, 2000, '01) and 4-time ASCA Coach of the Year (1991, 2005, '06 & '09). Eddie Reese was inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in 2002, the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 2002, the American Swimming Coaches Hall of Fame in 2003, and the Texas Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame in 2011.
