Temple, Texas native Joe Greene first gained national attention at North Texas State where he led his team to a three-year record of 23-5-1 and was named consensus All-American as a senior in 1968. "Mean Joe" was the No. 1 draft choice of Pittsburgh, and at the end of his first season he was named Rookie of the Year. Greene played defensive end on Pittsburgh's vaunted "Steel Curtain" defense that won four Super Bowls (1974, 1975, 1978, 1979). He was voted into the Pro Bowl a record 10 times and was a unanimous selection on the NFL's All-Decade Team of the 1970's. Greene was also a two-time Defensive Player of the Year making All-Pro in 10 of his 13 seasons. Greene was inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in 1985. (Football)
