WACO, Texas – Earlier this year, The Texas Sports Hall of Fame lost a very special member, Robert Hurst, who has served as the official Texas Sports Hall of Fame artist for the past 25 years
Since 1996, Hurst has painted the portrait of every inductee of the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. His portraits were a testament not only to Robert’s talent but also to the amazing gifts and subjects themselves. Beyond the Hall, Hurst’s work hangs throughout Texas, including the College Baseball Hall of Fame and the Texas Heritage Songwriters’ Hall of Fame.
Before his passing, Hurst passed the baton to his life-long friend and mentee Isaac “Ike” Rodriguez, who will now serve as the official artist of the Texas Hall of Fame.
Rodriguez’s work utilizes a similar style to Hurst, combining colorful abstract backgrounds with realistic portraits.
Rodriguez has already been hard at work, completing the portraits of the 2021 Texas Sports Hall of Fame inductees, which includes Cowboy legends Charlie Waters and DeMarcus Ware.
Rodrigues and Hurst's 2020-21 signed inductee portraits are availble for purchase here:
