Robert “Jackie” Robinson. Robinson left his mark in both high school and collegiate basketball in the state of Texas. In 1945 he led Fort Worth Paschal High School to a state championship, before continuing his basketball career at Baylor University.
After a season in which the Bears did not win a game, Robinson averaged 14 points per game and led Baylor to a conference title as a freshman. In 1948, Robinson and the Bears appeared in the NCAA title game, where they lost to Kentucky. He was a three time All-SWC selection, an All-American in 1948 and was a part of the gold medal winning 1948 U.S. Olympic team. He was also chosen for an audience with the King and Queen at Buckingham Palace as a representative of the US Olympic Teams.
.Robinson was inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in 1966.
