Brad Shearer was a member of the Austin American-Statesman’s All Cen-Tex team as a junior and a senior at Austin Westlake. While the Chaparrals did not make the playoffs, Shearer was a top recruit who went on to star at Texas. The two-time all-SWC defensive tackle was named SWC defensive player of the year by The Dallas Morning News and the Houston Post as a senior in 1977, won the Outland Trophy given to the nation's top interior lineman, was a Lombardi Trophy finalist and earned consensus all-America honors. Shearer also was named to the SWC all-decade team of the 1970s, the Dallas Morning News' all-time Texas/Oklahoma team and was inducted into the Longhorns Hall of Honor in 1989. Shearer played in the 1978 Hula Bowl All-Star Game and played for the NFL's Chicago Bears from 1978-1980.
